Job Description
The Impact Director helps lead, develop, and oversee GEM’s impact platform by supporting the integration of impact considerations in client strategy, portfolio design, operations, communications, and the investment selection and oversight process; engaging internal and external stakeholders to build GEM’s brand, inform GEM’s impact offerings, and attract new impact investors; serving as a subject matter expert on impact investing and the intersection of impact and philanthropy; and developing the impact team for leadership roles at GEM and in the impact investing industry.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Grow GEM’s impact business
- Engage directly with GEM clients and prospects to grow impact assets
- Identify and maintain up-to-date view of the target market and engage new prospective investors for GEM’s impact investment approach
- Identify and communicate opportunities to evolve impact offerings
- Expand GEM’s networks and brand through external engagement and understanding the evolving market
- Represent GEM as a subject matter expert and thought leader in impact investing
- Serve as a subject matter expert for Business Development and Communications teams to develop proactive and reactive content and participate in external engagements that build GEM’s brand
- Lead integration of impact considerations at GEM
- Understand and connect investor needs to existing GEM offerings and expertise
- Partner with Client Strategy and Investment Teams to integrate impact considerations across full spectrum of client engagements
- Identify and work with the Operations Team to utilize data and analytics that enhance the work of the Impact and the Client Strategy teams
- Develop consultative partnerships with clients to develop mission-aligned portfolios
- Oversee, develop, and enhance GEM’s internal practices for impact investing
- Maintain accountability and oversight for the GEM IMP Framework application and integration of impact considerations in the investment process, including oversight of investment decisions, portfolio changes, and controls to ensure adherence to GEM impact policy
- Work within the Investment Team to source and select impact investments in alignment with GEM’s clients’ investment and impact objectives
- Identify and execute opportunities to streamline internal procedures with regard to impact at GEM
Qualifications
- Successful candidates will display traits inherent in GEM’s collegial and team-oriented culture, including enthusiasm, honesty, humility, integrity, and curiosity, in addition to the following:
- Undergraduate degree with a track record of strong academic performance
- 5+ years of investment experience in traditional or impact investments
- 2+ years of experience in impact evaluation, impact investing, or impact-focused work; direct client engagement experience strongly preferred
- Impact evaluation in non-profit or for-profit setting is required
Working Conditions
- Position type – Full-time
- Work schedule – Minimum 40 hours/week
- Work location – Hybrid (3 days in-office, 2 days remote) subject to manager discretion
- Work environment – Office
- Essential physical requirements – Ability to sit and work on a computer for an extended period
- Travel requirements – Up to 25 percent of the time
